Professor Hou Jianxin (Ph.D in History, Nankai University), is the senior professor and the Vice Director of Academic Committee of Tianjin Normal University (TNU). He has also been the Dean of Institute of European Civilization of TNU, and the Distinguished Professor of Nanjing University. Prof. Hou was the member of the subject consultative group of the fifth and sixth Academic Degree Committee of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, and the convener of the World History group of the seventh state Academic Degree Committee. He has been the honorary president of the Chinese Society of World Ancient and Medieval History. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Economic and Social History Review and an expert of Review Board of the National Social Science Foundation of China.
Prof. Hou is the author of Western Europe and China in Transition(2001), The Primary Foundation for Modernization—the Individual Rights of Peasants and Social Changes in the Late Middle Ages(1991), A New Theory of the Origin of Capitalism(2014)and many other works.
Prof. Hou Jianxin’s research mainly focus on the British economic and social history, European civilization and comparison between China and the West during modernization.
Besides academic research, Prof. Hou’s teaching is widely acclaimed. He was awarded the Nationwide Prominent Teacher and many other honors.
