Research Interests
The economic and social history of medieval and modern western Europe, especially England,which includes the formation of the idea of private property rights, the management of farm, relations between town and country, the conditions and attitudes of peasants, poverty, the origins of capitalism, money and finance. Now the main project is to complete work on ‘the theory of private property rights in medieval England 500-1500’ funded by the National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation Project. This is intended to make a new assessment of the types of landhold by lords and peasants,and to evaluate their idea in that era.
